ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF <br />RESOLUTION OF RECOGNITION OF <br />THE INDIVIDUALS AND ORGANIZATIONS <br />WHO CREATED A VISUAL REPRESENTATION OF <br />250 YEARS OF ORANGE COUNTY HISTORY - <br />THE ORANGE COUNTY COURTHOUSE MURAL <br />WHEREAS, A mural commemorating the 250th amriversary of Orange County is nn display in <br />the Orange County District Courtroom; and, <br />WHEREAS, Chief District Court .Judge .Toe Buckner, the District Bar of Orange and Chatham <br />Counties and the Orange County Bar' Association provided primary concept, <br />funding and spirit to make this dream a reality; and, <br />WHEREAS, the painting by Michael Brown with help from Jennifer Miller represents one and a <br />half years of research with help from UNC students; and, <br />WHEREAS, during the last week of December 2003, six panels, 8 feet wide by 20 feet tall, were <br />installed in the courtroom; and, <br />WHEREAS, the art work contains 60 unique items representing the history of the County from <br />pre-Columbian times to the present and also the diversity of the people who have <br />called Orange County home; and, <br />WHEREAS, the majority of the $.35,000 cost was covered by the Judicial District 15B Bar and <br />the Stroud Roses Foundation and private donations; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that the Orange County Board of Commissioners expresses <br />its sincere appreciation and recognition to Judge Joe Buckner, the District Bar, the <br />Orange County Bar, Michael Brown and the many others involved for their <br />outstanding effort and skills to bring this public art work to the residents of Orange <br />County. <br />This the fourth day of May 2004. <br />Barry Jacobs, Chair <br />Orange County Board of Commissioners <br />
