10 <br /> WHEREAS, the nonprofit arts industry of Orange County has generated $15.8 million in local and <br /> state government revenue and $107 million in economic activity(2022) annually by organizations <br /> and audiences— including $22.3 million of spending beyond the cost of admission on items such <br /> as meals, parking, and lodging by arts event attendees — making the arts a vital income source <br /> for local businesses; <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, we, the Board of County Commissioners of Orange County, North Carolina, <br /> do hereby proclaim October 2024 as Arts and Humanities Month in Orange County and call upon <br /> community members to celebrate and promote the arts and culture throughout the region, state <br /> and nation, and to participate in sustaining the vibrancy of the arts and humanities for the <br /> betterment of society. <br /> This the 15th day of October, 2024. <br /> Jamezetta Bedford, Chair <br /> Orange County Board of Commissioners <br /> A motion was made by Vice-Chair Greene, seconded by Commissioner Hamilton, to <br /> approve and authorize the Chair to sign the proclamation. <br /> VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> d. Orange County Arts Commission 2024-25 Annual Grant Recipients <br /> The Board acknowledges local artists and organizations receiving 2024-25 Orange County Arts <br /> Grants. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> Orange County Annual Grants Cycle <br /> The Orange County Arts Commission (OCAC) administers two (2) primary grant programs each <br /> year. The Grassroots Arts Program utilizes state funding to provide support for nonprofit <br /> organizations and schools conducting arts programming. The Artist Project Grant utilizes county <br /> funding for artist-led community projects. <br /> A total of $29,711 from the Outside Agencies Program was allocated to the OCAC's annual <br /> Grassroots Arts Program to ensure arts agencies were applying for funding through a program <br /> specific to the arts following the best practices set forth by the North Carolina Arts Council. <br /> Statistics regarding this year's grant cycle are noted in the chart below. <br /> FUNDING SOURCES <br /> NC Arts Council Funding: Grassroots Arts Program $ 47,140 <br /> Orange County Funding: Artist Support Grants $ 28,800 <br /> Orange County Funding: Outside Agencies $ 29,711 <br /> OCAC Programs Budget $ 265.32 <br /> Returned FY 2023-24 grant funds $ 200 <br /> TOTAL AVAILABLE FUNDING $106,116.32 <br /> Total dollar amount requests $225,891.32 <br /> Total grants awarded 33, or 51% of applications <br />
