Audience Description Audiences for “The Christmas Case of Hezekiah Jones” will include
PlayMakers patrons, representing a broad base of subscribers, multi- and
single ticket buyers, and theatre enthusiasts. This audience population also
includes an estimated 15% average of UNC students between the ages of
18-25. W e expect audiences to come primarily from within Orange County
(Chapel Hill, Carrboro, and Hillsborough) as well as Durham, W ake, and
Chatham counties. W e estimate our total reach will be between 20,000-
40,000 individuals, with racial demographics of about 67% white, 13%
Black, and 10% Asian, according to current population estimates of the
region.
Our planned partnerships with Seed Art Share, W alltown Children’s
Theatre, and The ArtsCenter will engage a small number of participants as
featured community artists—elves in the North Pole; community members
of Chapel Hill; and Christmas celebrants. W e expect between 8-12 young
artists will take part in our engagement programming and join us in Chapel
Hill for the run of “Hezekiah.” This programming will also be open to their
families, friends, and other participants wishing to observe and take part in
the artistic process.
Location Description The primary location for the performance of “The Christmas Case of
Hezekiah Jones” is the Joan H. Gillings Center for Dramatic Art (CDA) at
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, an ADA-compliant
performing arts center with classroom studios and two theatre venues: the
Paul Green Theatre and the Elizabeth Price Kenan Theatre. All
performances will run in the Paul Green Theatre, a 550-seat theatre with a
thrust stage. The set designer for the production has already started
considering accessibility needs for community members who will join us.
Assisted listening devices will be available for patrons throughout the run,
and selected performances will offer certain accommodations, i.e., open
captioning and ASL interpretation. Participants from W alltown Children’s
Theatre and other project partners will also utilize classroom, rehearsal,
and studio space within the CDA. Engagement activities with proposed
project partners The ArtsCenter and W alltown Children’s Theatre will take
place on-location at their facilities. The ArtsCenter’s location at 400
Roberson Street, Carrboro, provides updated ADA-compliant facilities for
arts engagement. W alltown Children’s Theatre is a multi-purpose, ADA-
compliant black box theatre space located at 1225 Berkley Street in
Durham.
Docusign Envelope ID: 5C256EF3-BBCD-4FD6-922F-A5FC9410DC42
