Nature of <br />Organization <br />Non-arts Organization <br />Organization <br />Description <br />Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated is a private, not-for-profit <br />organization whose purpose is to provide assistance and support through <br />established programs in local communities throughout the world. The <br />organization is a sisterhood of predominantly Black, college educated <br />women. Since its founding more than 300,000 women have joined the <br />organization. Since it’s chartering in 1979, the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Area <br />Alumnae Chapter (CHCAA) of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., has <br />mirrored its programs of community service in the image of its Grand <br />Chapter and has worked diligently to develop and to implement a wide <br />range of empowering programs and initiatives that emulate its shared <br />mission with that of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. CHCAA serves both <br />Orange County and Chatham County. <br />In the long-standing tradition of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., CHCAA <br />continues to advance its efforts to strengthen African-American families <br />and communities through its Five-Point Programmatic Thrust: Educational <br />Development, Economic Development, International Awareness and <br />Involvement, Physical and Mental Health, and Political Awareness and <br />Involvement. The chapter hosts several committees that implement <br />programming that serves the community. Arts and letters is one of the <br />many committees that create and facilitate programing. <br />The mission of the Arts and Letters Committee is to promote a positive <br />image of African Americans and other minorities in our community through <br />the medium of music, dance, drama, and poetry. The committee promotes <br />worthwhile cultural endeavors and artists through events such as book <br />signings, theatre parties, concerts and artists showcase. <br />How many Orange <br />County residents <br />does the organization <br />serve? <br />W e serve the entire Orange County population. <br />Has your <br />organization <br />undergone any <br />Diversity, Equity, and <br />Inclusion (DEI) <br />training? If so, <br />please explain. If not, <br />please explain any <br />barriers that have <br />prevented you from <br />receiving this <br />training. <br />Our organization hasn't undergone Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) <br />training as a whole.
