Then, in art class, students will develop 3-D projects related to
tundras out of a variety of materials (especially found objects and Papier
Mâché). Some of the projects will be individual student creations and some
will be constructed by groups. Students will also create informative signs
from their research that provide information about the flora and fauna of
tundras, the ecological issues regarding why tundras are important, and the
current issues affecting tundras. Finally, as a whole school, students and
teachers will install an immersive tundra that will take into account all the
five senses. Once the display is up, all CES the students and the local
community will be invited to travel through and learn about the tundra.
Project Start Date
(no earlier than July
1, 2024)
January 1, 2025
Project End Date (no
later than June 30,
2025)
May 1, 2025
Project Goals Students at all grade levels read age-appropriate books about tundras and,
from their research, produce educational signage for the immersive tundra
biome that will be created; Students at all grade levels work individually
and/or in groups to create 3-D elements of a tundra; Erect an “immersive”
tundra that students, staff, and community members can visit and walk
through, one where all the senses will be stimulated; Students work
together in a positive and impactful way to create a beautiful and impactful
art display. Students learn about an important ecological environment and
the effects that humans are having on that environment.
Curricular Goals:
The Terrific Tundras project will give students an opportunity to learn
across multiple disciplines–literacy, science (animals, plants, ecology, the
five senses), art, etc. This is direct alignment with NC Arts Standards.
Social Emotional Learning–Students will learn to work together in a positive
and impactful way. They will directly see how we are all connected together
and must work together in our own classrooms and larger communities.
Docusign Envelope ID: F3D1E608-790E-485C-9F08-24DB98B85B3C
