Audience Description The students who will be invited to hear Ms. Coulter will be CHHS students, <br />including those in French, AP African American History, all Arts, English, <br />and History classes. The demographic makeup of students in CHCCS is as <br />follows: Native American-0%; Asian-13%; Latinx-15%; Black-11%; Pacific <br />Islander/Hawaiian-0%; W hite-55%; and Multiracial-5%. <br />Location Description Presentations by and conversations with Ms. Coulter will take place in the <br />CHHS Auditorium and in individual classrooms. <br />Artist Description Dare Coulter was born in Augusta, GA and raised in Lorton, VA. For the <br />second half of her life she has lived in and around Raleigh, NC where the <br />bulk of her public artwork has been created. She graduated from North <br />Carolina State University with a Bachelor’s in Art + Design, but considers <br />herself a graduate of Meredith College’s art program, as well.Her most <br />recent notable work includes a 200 ft mural (with Kotis Street Art) in <br />Greensboro honoring oft-unmentioned black cowboys and a commission of <br />a painting of Nina Simone from the National Trust for Historic Preservation <br />that was used to raise funds to restore Nina Simone's childhood home. She <br />has illustrated nine children's books, including Kwame Alexander’s “An <br />American Story” and You Are My Sunshine. W hile Dare is pursuing her <br />dream of creating monumental sculptures to black joy all over the world, <br />she is having a great time visiting schools and painting murals, and sharing <br />her passion for art with the world. <br />Are you hiring <br />multicultural artists <br />with the requested <br />funds from this <br />grant? <br />Yes <br />For each multicultural <br />artist you intend to <br />hire, please list their <br />name, race, and how <br />much you plan to pay <br />them. <br />Dare Coulter-Black $2500 <br />How will the <br />project/program be <br />publicized and <br />promoted to reach <br />intended <br />participants? <br />Classroom teachers will promote the sessions with Ms. Coulter in their <br />rooms. Posters making students aware of Ms. Coulter's visit will be posted <br />around the school. <br />How will you <br />evaluate the success <br />of the program? <br />Students and teachers will be surveyed to get feedback on the value of <br />Dare Coulter’s presentation, what they learned, and what they found <br />valuable.
