Artist Description W e worked with the Durham Arts Council Creative Arts in Public School <br />(CAPS) program to secure our artists the past two years, and we are <br />delighted to work with them again. W e chose a diverse mix of <br />performances including dance, music, and theater, and focusing on themes <br />including visual arts, folklore, poetry, and multi-cultural experiences. <br />Performance descriptions for the 2024-25 school year are as follows (total <br />cost $6,250): <br />The 99 Brass Band: Music from the Birthplace of Jazz (1 show for $1,875) <br />stArt of Cool (SOC) is a program that provides quality music education for <br />students interested in learning more about music performance and <br />fundamentals of Jazz, Latin Jazz, other popular styles of music. SOC <br />features the 99 Brass Band, an exploration in American music history from <br />its deep southern roots to present day musical influences. Schools cannot <br />go wrong with this high-energy and interactive offering of hip-hop, <br />spirituals, and soul music classics. Presented by professional career <br />musicians and educators with over 20 years of experience, they integrate <br />social studies, geography, and math with a New Orleans-style musical <br />experience. <br />StoryUp!: Aerial Aesop’s (2 shows for $1,875) <br />W hat happens when a librarian and a school teacher run away to join the <br />circus? Acrobatic acts, spine tingling stories, and gravity defying feats of <br />literacy! Combining their years of experience as aerialists, teachers and <br />storytellers, StoryUp! brings a unique spin on literacy and circus to schools, <br />libraries, and festivals. Join StoryUp! as they use the ground, air, and all <br />the space in-between as they retell three classic Aesop’s fables using <br />aerial silks. Students will delight as these storytellers climb, spin, and flip in <br />this interactive and gravity-defying performance. <br />Pline Mounzeo: BouNzenza (2 shows for $1,500) <br />At age 18, Mounzeo started playing music. His interest in his country’s <br />traditional rhythm with the Ngoma drum developed quickly, and he began to <br />share his talent all over Congo and then share the melodies of his country <br />around the world. This high energy music and dance performance <br />introduces students to the music and culture of the Congo. The <br />performance explores the history, music, dance, and diverse people of the <br />Congo and the connection to the music of New Orleans and Congo Square. <br />Students and teachers alike will learn simple dance moves and rhythms <br />that will leave them clapping, stomping, and dancing for the rest of the day! <br />Matt Sandbank’s Shadow Factory: A W ild Goose Chase! (2 shows for <br />$1,000) <br />Matt Sandbank has toured nationally with his shadow puppetry programs <br />since 2009. As a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Asheville’s <br />creative writing program and a former middle school teacher, Matt brings <br />his love of literature and his experience as a teacher to each of his <br />performances. A W ild Goose Chase comprises a series of interactive <br />vignettes and verses that illustrate key poetic devices–such as rhythm, <br />imagery, metaphor, simile, alliteration, onomatopoeia, and narrative–for <br />elementary school audiences. <br />Docusign Envelope ID: 29D07BFE-C479-466C-8F7C-D1E51121B1FE
