Cirruculum and <br />Enrichment <br />Carrboro Elementary adheres to the North Carolina Standard Course of <br />Study for guidance in curriculum standards. Each of the artists we have <br />chosen align closely with these curriculum standards. The performances <br />will cover educational aspects of comprehensive arts (dance, music, <br />theater arts, and visual arts) as well as science and social studies. W e will <br />schedule the Palenke dance and Brevan Hampden trio for Hispanic <br />Heritage month celebrations which are of great importance to our Spanish- <br />speaking community. Details of how the artists tie into educational and arts <br />curriculum is outlined below. <br />Arts Education: <br />- Understanding the arts for history, culture, heritage, ideas, and lifelong <br />learning <br />- Connecting learning with disciplines outside of the arts <br />- Understanding and appreciating world cultures and historic periods. <br />Music Education: <br />- Enhance musical literacy including executing rhythmic patterns using the <br />body, instruments or voice <br />- Select a variety of traditional and non-traditional sound sources to <br />accompany readings, stories, or dramatizations. <br />- Create music using a variety of sound and notational sources <br />Science Education: <br />- Find solutions to questions and gain experience conducting simple <br />investigations and working in small groups. <br />- Ask questions and make predictions that can be tested. <br />- Understand motion and factors that affect motion; structure and properties <br />of matter; and energy transfer between objects. <br />Social Studies Education: <br />- Identify cultural practices in local communities and around the world. <br />- Explain how culturally, racially, and ethnically diverse people shape a <br />community. <br />- Explain how the artistic expressions of diverse cultures contribute to <br />communities. <br />Audience Description 522 total students (2022-2024 school year) - total number and percentage <br />of school population <br />W hite: 282 (54%) <br />Black: 23 (4%) <br />Hispanic: 175 (34%) <br />Asian: 15 (2%) <br />American Indian: 1 (<1%) <br />Multi: 26 (4%) <br />ESL: 112 (21%) <br />Location Description All shows will take place in Carrboro Elementary School's school <br />auditorium.
