Since its inception, OCCRC has been hosting and co-sponsoring programs
to inform and educate the community about our local history of racial terror
violence and how its legacy is perpetuated today. Programs cover the
stories of advocates for justice, fighters for voting rights, and life for
everyday African Americans. W orking with historians, journalists,
researchers, and family history and genealogy specialists, OCCRC seeks
to create a solid history of each instance of racial terror lynching – what is
known about the individuals involved, both victims and perpetrators, their
families and descendants, their homesteads, churches and cemeteries,
and the likely locations of the lynchings.
Currently, OCCRC is co-lead by: Dr. Freddie Parker, Rep. Renee Price,
Sally Freeman, and Judge Hathaway Pendergrass.
How many Orange
County residents
does the organization
serve?
The Orange County Community Remembrance Coalition serves all
residents of Orange County, though primarily teenagers and adults. Our
programs are free and open to the public. W e therefore seek to serve at
least 126,000 of 148,700 OC residents.
Has your
organization
undergone any
Diversity, Equity, and
Inclusion (DEI)
training? If so,
please explain. If not,
please explain any
barriers that have
prevented you from
receiving this
training.
OCCRC as a whole has not undergone DEI training; yet the member
organizations separately and individuals on their own have participated in
such training. For example, Coalition members who also serve in local
government have taken the Government Alliance on Race and Equity
(GARE) training.
During FY24-25, will
your organization
receive operational
support funding from
the North Carolina
Arts Council or the
North Carolina
Department of
Natural and Cultural
Resources?
No
Organization's EIN 561558751.0
Organization
W ebsite
https://www.humankindness.org/
Authorizing Official's
Name
Erin Parish
Authorizing Official's
Title
Executive Director
Docusign Envelope ID: 16E66793-3E26-4E39-A35F-F0AC9D3BF45C
