Please also
explain how the program aligns with the Town of Chapel Hill and Carrboro's Human Services Program
Results Framework and/or Orange County's BOCC Goals and Priorities (250 words or less).
RHP provides a transitional “home” that sets itself apart from others in the region
by providing a holistic approach to the challenges of reentry. To begin, we
examine the needs of the individual and build a program to address these
deficiencies with specific goals. Usually this begins with finding suitable work for
the men, and - if the person is physically able - this can often start by working
directly for William Elmore and Edward Scott (Scottso) who own Community
Landscaping. The strength of this option is that the men get to work immediately
and earn a living wage. Most importantly, it gives Will and Scottso an opportunity
to mentor their immediate needs while overseeing their first days at the house.
In addition, SWIT teaches social skills and provides its clients with the emotional
and psychological tools needed to successfully build a new life free of drugs and
crime. Weekly life-skills classes are combined with regular one-on-one mentoring
by a Certified Peer Support Specialist to address the needs of the individual.
These classes - developed by Will and Tommy based on their life experiences
both in and out of prison - are required of all men in the house and often include
men and women from the larger Orange County community. The relational
program is designed around one core principle - first and foremost the program
seeks to help each man or woman to achieve a level of “self-care” which should
then assure a new level of independence. We seek nothing less than to shift the
power of our program to their successful transition to Orange County society.
The three goals included here each address different aspects of this
comprehensive program to give men and women the emotional support, life-
skills, and sense of self needed to succeed "on the outside".
Docusign Envelope ID: 7FDB6F4F-342E-48F9-AB32-849444E74E84
