This application seeks
to build on the success of that offering.
Story Connection will expand to three classes and performances at the
ArtsCenter. One class will replicate last year’s offering (a free class that
centers underrepresented voices); the others will include 3 free spots (of
12) for those who need financial assistance. Classes run for 6 weeks (12
hours of instruction) and end with a final performance students are invited,
though not required, to participate in. As described in the attached letter,
the ArtsCenter is excited about these offerings and our collaborative efforts
to expand live storytelling in Orange County.
The expansion of Story Connection necessarily requires broader funding.
As you will see in the attached budget, this proposal seeks funds for: artist
instructional hours for the free class, marketing materials for the free class
and shows, and partial support of recording and editing audio of the
performances. Additional costs (theatre rental, audio work) will be covered
by:
ticket sales (sliding scale cost, with the option for free admission available
to all), fundraising–I have been teaching in Orange County for 11 years and
my client base includes many individuals who have the resources and
desire to support community arts; and my own funds.
I believe deeply in this project and storytelling as an artistic medium. Story
is one of our oldest art forms; our brains are wired to create story and
learn from it, which is why it’s so accessible. During every storytelling class
I’ve ever taught, the same miracle occurs: over the course of six weeks,
people who’ve never consciously thought much about how to tell a story
Docusign Envelope ID: 53A18A07-6090-48C5-85EF-DAC4C4CD5BA4
