voices. It made me appreciate the diversity of our community and feel a
stronger connection to others.
Orange County does a great job supporting the arts."
As these testimonials demonstrate, listening to someone else’s story is
unspeakably powerful. Storytelling can replace fear and unfamiliarity with
empathy and understanding. And as one storyteller said to me, “To be seen
and heard has magical powers.” The act of being witnessed is even more
impactful for individuals accustomed to being marginalized.
This year’s iteration of Story Connection will include three public
performances, each with a 50 person attendance goal. More frequent
performances will increase public awareness and momentum, and
continuing to offer a free class and performance specifically for
underrepresented voices means more exposure for those voices to a wider
audience. It also continues to broadcast the message that all voices are
welcome on the Story Connection stage.
All performances will be recorded. Storytellers will have a tangible record of
their performance, and if they consent, their stories will become podcast
episodes I will distribute widely, allowing more people to be impacted by the
quality and heart of Story Connection.
This will also help with advocacy work. This year, the power of Story
Connection will be used to support fundraising efforts for the ArtsCenter
and showcase the nonprofit community partners whose work explicitly
supports underresourced communities in Orange County.
Storytelling is an equalizer, one of our most powerful avenues to
understanding, compassion, and empathy. Story Connection aims to bring
the connection of storytelling to Orange County and broaden and
strengthen our community by amplifying and affirming authentic voices.
Docusign Envelope ID: 53A18A07-6090-48C5-85EF-DAC4C4CD5BA4
