How will the
project/program be
publicized and
promoted to reach
intended participants?
The Program is publicized through the families of our current students, refugee
organizations, Kidzu Children's Museum, Transplanting Traditions Karen
Community Farm, The Triangle Community Foundation, FRANK Fund raising
events and at the Durham Refugee Fair this year to be held on June 29. Our
program is best recruited through person to person encounters and we have also
found that families bring other family members to the group once they see what
we offer. W e also have younger siblings of current Group members who are
eager to join when they become ten. One of our problems is the issue of
scheduling. W e have to meet when the students are free from church, mosque,
school and family obligations and when the gallery space is available and closed
to the public. Currently Sunday mornings from 8:30am to 11:30am work well but
present problems for prospective Ukrainian and Afghan students who belong to
Ukrainian Church groups or mosque Sunday Schools. W e may have to adjust our
class schedule.to increase more diversity. W e do post a lot of the current
students' work and activities on social media and this has brought us some
students through non profit volunteers. Another issue is the impermanence of
recent refugees' circumstances-the Karen Community is now an established local
community but recent refugee groups still move a lot with work or to be closer to
family. W e in turn do benefit from such refugee migrations and two of our current
students started life in the USA living in south Dakota.
How will you evaluate
the success of the
program?
W e will evaluate the success of the Program by the number of culturally diverse
students attracted to it and by the educational successes our arts and
educational enrichment activities continue to deliver. W e will also examine the
impact of paying the Program's teachers on FRANK Gallery's efforts to become
more DEI compliant and consequently our ability to attract more culturally diverse
artists to our membership, Board and ergo more granting opportunities benefiting
this Program and all our non profit endeavors. W e currently have students from a
number of school systems where art education is an elective. Our Program, and
particularly our concentration of portfolio development, is very attractive to such
students. W e will continue to evaluate each student's portfolio and artistic
development -every student has a portfolio where all their work is stored, and the
portfolio's potential value to a student's school curriculum choices, college
entrance or jobs. As noted, we have a Group critique after every class. This
constant dialogue helps students personal skills focus and grow. It also helps us
with Program planning. W e serve breakfast before every class during which we
talk about the past week's events and make future plans for outings and other
educational enrichment experiences. Involving the group in discussion and
decision making is integral to our goal of offering a relevant program to refugee
youths. Being a refugee is not easy and our Program with in-built understanding
and twelve years experience has, to date, proved successful.
PROJECT/PROGRAM
BUDGET
Please fill out the charts below with your project's expenses and income.
