Our program, now in its twelfth
year and formerly called the Karen (Burmese) Youth Art Group has provided arts
and educational enrichment to over 140 plus refugee youths through arts and
educational support by FRANK artists on a one to one basis resulting in
community leaders and enabling Group members to pursue further and higher
education. Our current group comprises Karen and non Karen refugees and our
recent re-engagement with the Kidzu Children's Museum 's refugee initiative will
soon result in our group incorporating Ukrainian refugees over ten years of age.
The program is administered by FRANK artist Nerys Levy, assisted by Karen
artist/ teacher and former Group member Lah Htoo Boh. Two other FRANK
member artists, Susan Finer and Shelly Hehenberger also act as teaching
support. Classes include painting, print making and computer art. Periodically
FRANK artist Natalie Boorman teaches ceramics at her studio. The program also
includes college tours and visits to local artists studios and museums. Volunteer
Frances Hamer is the program's social support and driver. Given the Group's
challenging needs, including transportation, we operate with a maximum of twelve
students at a time. Some of our senior students now work with the Program
including teacher Lah Htoo Boh, and Sheemoo Tatataw the Program's volunteer
at Kidzu.
Project Start Date (no
earlier than July 1,
2024)
July 1 2024
Project End Date (no
later than June 30,
2025)
June 31 2025
Docusign Envelope ID: CBE41939-719A-4696-9DEF-A5A8E3BD2E8B
