Project Director Title Band and Orchestra teacher <br />Project Director <br />Phone <br />(919) 918-2145 <br />Project Director <br />Email <br />rneville@chccs.k12.nc.us <br />W hat are you <br />requesting funding <br />for? <br />A specific program or project <br />Project/Program <br />Summary <br />The band and orchestra teacher at Smith Middle School (SMS), Robin <br />Neville, would like to hire a local biracial composer to create a music <br />composition for her students that they can perform together as a full <br />orchestra. Ms. Neville describes her current students as “musically very <br />strong” and would like the opportunity for both the 8th grade band and <br />orchestra students to perform and compete together. This would be the first <br />experience for the 8th graders to perform as a full orchestra. The composer <br />who she feels is most qualified to create a piece for the Smith Middle <br />School students is Kieran Casey, a composer who has substituted at SMS <br />and someone who knows the students’ capabilities and interests (as he <br />worked with them last year at SMS while he was subbing for the Chorus <br />teacher).
