Location Description The program will take place in 5th grade classrooms at seven elementary <br />schools in Orange County. These schools are: <br />Central Elementary <br />Efland Cheeks Elementary <br />Grady Brown Elementary <br />Hillsborough Elementary <br />New Hope Elementary <br />Pathways Elementary <br />River Park Elementary <br />The 'W hat is Architecture?' Program has had a high rate of success in its <br />initial year in CHCCS elementary and middle schools. After experiencing <br />the workshops, teachers and staff requested the replication of the <br />workshops in additional classrooms and schoolwide STEAM events. In all, <br />Prism offered the workshops to 20 unique classrooms of students between <br />4th-8th grades during the 2023-'24 school year. <br />The program has been implemented in a variety of class types and sizes <br />and has included ECS students as well as students with language barriers. <br />Prism staff engaged the teachers and support staff of these students to <br />ensure that both the presentation and building activity would be accessible <br />to all participants. <br />Artist Description Prism will engage local architects, designers and artists to facilitate the <br />'W hat is Architecture?' workshops. Since we began programming in 2023, <br />we have engaged the following professionals in our programs, all of whom <br />are BIPOC and/or women. <br />Kwame Alexander, poet, educator, publisher, Emmy® Award-winning <br />producer, and #1 New York Times bestselling author <br />Dare Coulter, sculptor, artist, muralist, and illustrator <br />CJ Suitt, performance poet, arts educator, and community organizer <br />Tarish “Jeghetto” Pipkins, artist, puppeteer, poet, educator <br />Eliza Redmann, sculptor, architect, and founder of Folded Poetry design <br />studio <br />Derrick Barnes, children's book author <br />Zakiya W iggins, architect <br />Laura Ritchie, curator and arts organizer <br />Gale Belvett, curator and founder of The Art Chose Me <br />Chelsea Davis, architectural designer <br />Prism's Executive Director is a licensed architect and has successfully <br />facilitated the 'W hat Is Architecture?' W orkshops, engaging with students <br />on their level to foster an understanding of the architecture profession and <br />how it impacts the community.
