Has your
organization
undergone any
Diversity, Equity, and
Inclusion (DEI)
training? If so,
please explain. If not,
please explain any
barriers that have
prevented you from
receiving this
training.
Yes. Prism’s Executive Director has participated in the Racial Equity
Institute’s Two Day W orkshop. See description below.
REI’s two-day workshop is designed to develop the capacity of participants
to better understand racism in its institutional and structural forms. Moving
away from a focus on personal bigotry and bias, this workshop presents a
historical, cultural, and structural analysis of racism. W ith shared language
and a clearer understanding of how institutions and systems are producing
unjust and inequitable outcomes, participants should leave the training
better equipped to begin to work for change.
Five out of seven of Prism’s BOD have undergone DEI training. One Board
member was the co-lead of a yearlong DEI training for teachers. Another
Board member is a DEI consultant for a private U.S. corporation.
Prism Design Lab actively seeks to promote access, equity, and
inclusiveness, and to discourage discrimination that denies the essential
humanity of all people. Prism’s policies reflect the belief that organizational
performance is greatly enhanced when people with different backgrounds
and perspectives are engaged in an organization’s activities and decision-
making.
Prism is dedicated to fostering diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility
(DEIA) in all aspects of our organization. All artists Prism partners with are
people of color and/or women. W e prioritize diversity in recruiting students,
employees, and board members, ensuring representation from various
backgrounds and perspectives. Our commitment to inclusivity extends to
inviting the community and the public into our space, fostering collaboration
and engagement. Members of our board, staff, and workshop leaders are
selected based on their alignment with our mission, culture, and
commitment to DEIA principles.
'Representation Matters' is one of Prism’s key values. Because Prism
works primarily with BIPOC youth and young women, the youth must see
themselves in the professionals and mentors that they interact with. All
professionals that Prism partners with are BIPOC and/or women.
Additionally, Prism partners with community organizations with a
commitment to DEIA principles. They include the City of Durham’s Office
On Youth, Student U, NC NOMA, The Marian Cheek Jackson Center, and
Diversify Architecture.
During FY24-25, will
your organization
receive operational
support funding from
the North Carolina
Arts Council or the
North Carolina
Department of
Natural and Cultural
Resources?
No
Docusign Envelope ID: 5641B9CB-273D-4785-AA6D-57F778AAA9EF
