Deerfield Beach, FL Greeley, CO Oakland Park, FL <br />Grand Junction, CO <br />KCI has been <br />retained again by the <br />city to assist them <br />in securing new <br />solid waste disposal <br />and recyclables <br />processing facilities. <br />KCI will be assisting in the preparation <br />of solicitation documents and <br />throughout the negotiation and contract <br />finalization process. <br />KCI, as a partner <br />with LBA Associates, <br />is conducting a Solid <br />Waste Diversion <br />Study evaluating a <br />broad range of policy, programs, and <br />service options to dramatically increase <br />waste diversion. Work entails strategic <br />assessment, impacts on customers and <br />service providers, capital and operating <br />costs, municipal code requirements, <br />and implementation requirements. <br />KCI is providing the <br />City of Oakland Park <br />with solid waste <br />technical assistance <br />regarding special bulk <br />waste and side door <br />collection operations <br />as well as a review of the city’s can and <br />container deposit program and Solid <br />Waste Ordinance updates. <br />KCI, as a partner with LBA Associates, has begun work on a Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) feasibility study <br />that considers options for city and regional capacity as well as ability to handle a range of collection methods <br />including multi-material, dual stream, and single stream. <br />3 | Summer 2023 <br />New Assignments <br />On May 1 Mitch Kessler <br />attended WasteExpo in <br />New Orleans and made <br />a presentation titled <br />“10 Keys to Successful <br />Public-Private Partnerships.” The <br />presentation centered on the steps <br />needed to develop a successful public- <br />private partnership and what needs <br />to be included as part of a successful <br />agreement between partners. Randy <br />Rudd attended the equipment show <br />to get the latest updates on industry <br />technology. <br />Bethany Jewell was invited to speak <br />during the Appalachian State University’s <br />Energy Summit on June 8. Speaking <br />to university representatives across the <br />U.S., her presentation covered the critical <br />need of how to revamp a university <br />diversion <br />program. <br />Miriam <br />Zimms, <br />Randy Rudd, <br />and Kyle <br />Richardson <br />attended the <br />Recycle Florida Today (RFT) conference <br />from June 20-22 in Bonita Springs, FL. <br />Miriam Zimms attended her last Board <br />meeting after serving and contributing for <br />six years. This was Miriam’s second time <br />serving on the board making her total <br />contributions on the Board of nine years. <br />Miriam continues to serve her time as the <br />Membership Chair of RFT. <br />At the inaugural Florida Composting <br />Council’s (FLCC) Association conference <br />co-located with the RFT conference <br />on June 21 in Bonita Springs, Miriam <br />Zimms presented on the Florida <br />Organics Recycling Center of Excellence <br />(FORCE) project and walked attendees <br />through how to use the FORCE website <br />(www.floridaforce.org) for establishing, <br />expanding, or <br />revitalizing organics <br />recycling programs <br />throughout the state. <br />Miriam Zimms also hosted a community <br />expressive arts table during the RFT- <br />FLCC conferences that allowed attendees <br />to create, explore and have some fun. <br />The table offered a drawing-side and a <br />question-side that asked attendees to <br />answer the question, “Before I die, I want <br />to…” <br />Mitch Kessler <br />attended the <br />SWANA Board of Directors Meetings held <br />in Denver June 26-27.] <br />Miriam Zimms attended <br />the SWANA Sunshine <br />Chapter summer <br />conference in Daytona <br />Beach, FL from Jul 23-25 <br />on behalf of Mitch Kessler. <br />She provided an update to the Board <br />on behalf of Mitch’s role on the SWANA <br />Board of Directors and facilitated the <br />Recycling and Special Waste Roundtable. <br />Mitch <br />Kessler, <br />Randy Rudd, <br />and Kyle <br />Richardson <br />attended the <br />Resource <br />Recycling Conference August 14- <br />16 in Orlando, FL.
