New
KCI
News
Assignments
Out & About
Briefs
3 | Winter 2023
Clearwater, FL
The City of
Clearwater has
contracted with
KCI to conduct
a recyclables
composition
study on their
single stream recyclables collected
by the city. The results of the study
will be used to calculate the average
market value of the city’s recyclables
in their recyclables processing
contract. To gain a complete picture
of the city’s recycling program KCI is
also partnering with The Recycling
Partnership to measure the composition
of the city’s waste stream at the same
time as the recycling stream. This will
allow KCI to calculate the capture rate
of recyclables to evaluate how effective
the program is at removing recyclables
from the waste stream.
Mitch Kessler attended SWANA WasteCon & BOD
meetings in Boston September 26-29.
In November, Miriam Zimms attended the Florida Recycles Day event held by
the FDEP and FRP at the University of South Florida’s Patel College of Global
Sustainability, Tampa, FL.
Miriam Zimms has been invited to serve on the National Organization for Arts in
Health (NOAH) Board for 2024-2027 term. Miriam is an award-winning artist and
advocate for Arts in Health in FL and the country. Miriam has always been considered
an out of the box thinker by many of our clients and the award-winning environmental
programs she has developed over the years with them. Congrats!
Randy Rudd has been selected by the US Composting
Council to present at the upcoming COMPOST 2024
conference February 6-9 in Daytona Beach, FL. Randy
will be co-presenting “The State of Organics Recycling
in Florida & the Florida Organics Recycling Center for Excellence (FORCE)” with
Lauren O’Connor from the Waste Registration & Recycling Program at FDEP. For
more information and registration visit https://compostconference.com/.
KCI and FORCE
organics staff
have been
participating in the
FL Composting
Council’s (FLCC)
62-709 Rule work group and sub-
groups. Staff members provided a
technical memorandum with feedback
and comments on the existing 62-
709 Rule in preparation for the public
workshop, review, and approval
process. For more information visit:
https://floridadep.gov OrganicsRecycling.
Fayetteville, AR North Port, FL
Indian River County, FL
Oakland Park, FL
The City of
Fayetteville
requested KCI to
assist in providing
specifications and
procuring a replacement horizontal
baler for its current Recycling
Processing Facility (RPF). KCI will
also assist in phasing improvements of
sorting equipment at the RPF and the
addition of a new bale storage building.
KCI was selected
by the City of
North Port Solid
Waste District to
assist in determining policy changes
required by the city to implement
service and billing practices legally and
efficiently under the District. KCI will
assess current practices, and where
necessary, research municipal code
requirements, Florida regulations,
and conduct a comparison survey of
up to five comparable municipalities
that conduct solid waste billing to
identify how billing processes differ
among single family, multi-family, and
commercial customers.
Indian River County
selected KCI to assist
in developing the
procurement package
for the Landfill Operator
Contract which will begin in 2025. KCI
is currently working with county staff
to review operations and establish a
timeline and procedures to be used in
the procurement process.
The City of Oakland Park
approved a new contract
with KCI to provide
technical assistance to
the Solid Waste Division
for collection operations, disposal
options, and general assistance in
solid waste operations.
Docusign Envelope ID: 1223AA0B-DDEC-4EBE-8FEA-427010558A5C
