Ft. Pierce, FL
Grand Junction, CO
Indian River County, FL
Manatee County, FL
Sarasota County, FL
Sarasota, FL
The Recycling Partnership,
Washington, D.C.
KCI is assisting
the City of Ft.
Pierce with the
selection of a
vendor for a truck telematics system to
improve collection efficiency, dispatch,
and service verification functions.
KCI, in
collaboration with
LBA Associates,
completed a
Materials Recovery
Facility (MRF) feasibility study for
the City of Grand Junction. Based
on our report and presentation, the
city has decided to pursue design
and development of a new MRF with
flexibility to handle diverse collection
methods and regional tonnage.
The county retained
KCI again to assist in
their franchise collection
procurement process.
The solicitation is
currently open with great
attendance to the non-mandatory pre-
proposal meeting in December. KCI
will continue to assist the county with
the evaluation and negotiation process
slated for early 2024.
KCI has been
assisting the county
with a new franchise
collection procurement
process to help define new contracts
once the current contracts expire in
2025. In November, the Board of
County Commissioners requested
staff to evaluate additional contract
extensions. In coordination with county
staff, KCI is assisting with this contract
update and negotiation process.
KCI wrapped
up results
from a Waste
Composition
Study (WCS) and Construction and
Demolition Visual Audit, both designed
to assist the county in understanding
the materials being disposed of in the
county’s landfill and potential diversion
opportunities the county may pursue.
KCI continues to assist the county with
all stages of their franchise collection
procurement. The county received five
responses to the solicitation that were
narrowed during the selection process
and are in negotiations with several
firms.
To remain updated on programming
and pricing across Florida, KCI
completed a pricing survey of six
comparable communities selected by
the county. This multi-year project
that launched in 2021, has allowed
the county to understand market
fluctuations and the relationship to their
own collection and disposal pricing.
KCI recently completed two additional
projects for Sarasota County, the first
being an update of a previous feasibility
assessment for the County Solid
Waste Department regarding in-house
curbside residential and commercial
collection in the unincorporated county.
KCI also conducted a feasibility
assessment regarding the possibility of
in-house collection of recyclables from
county locations.
Leveraging on-site
fieldwork during the
Sarasota County WCS,
KCI coordinated with
the city to pull additional
samples and perform a statistically
valid composition of the city’s materials
being landfilled. Results will be utilized
by the city to support and inform plans
for enhancing food waste diversion.
Henrico County, VA
TRP requested KCI to conduct
a recycling tonnage analysis to
determine the effectiveness of an
education campaign to increase
recycling participation within
Henrico County. This analysis will
be conducted by reviewing recycling
tonnage data from recycling collection
routes for both control and target area
groups. The educational campaign
was conducted between October 2
and November 17, 2023. KCI is now
analyzing tonnage data to determine
the impact of the educational
campaign.
Folsom, CA
KCI conducted a capture study to
determine the effectiveness of five-
tiered intervention groups within
Folsom. Phase 1 was completed
in September 2023 and provided
baseline capture rate data for each of
the five intervention groups. This study
will be repeated in spring 2024 after
education and outreach is provided to
each of the intervention groups.
Minot, ND
A capture study was completed by KCI
in Minot October 2023. The goal of this
study is to provide a comprehensive
assessment of the cities’ newly
implemented recycling program.
Alachua County, FL
KCI conducted two multi-family
capture studies in coordination
with TRP and the county as part of
an intervention study designed to
measure pre- and post-outreach
recycling levels in multi-family
complexes. Outreach efforts were
designed to support the county’s
recently adopted mandate for multi-
family recycling.
Client Updates
2 | Winter 2023
Docusign Envelope ID: 1223AA0B-DDEC-4EBE-8FEA-427010558A5C
