DURHAM
1869
CITY OF MEDICINE
CITY OF DURHAM
Department of Solid Waste Management 101 CITY HALL PLAZA 27701
1833 Camden Avenue I Durham, NC 27704
919.560.41861919.560.1197
www.durhamnc.gov
To Whom It May Concern:
I have had a five year relationship vVith Kessler Consulting, Inc. (KCI). KCI recently completed
the Waste and Recyclables Characterization Study for the City of Durham, Solid Waste
Management Department. KCI is currently working with staff to initiate an Organics Pilot
Program based on results from the study. Their sincerity and dedication in providing us vVith a
great service has in turn provided us with ideas to increase our diversion rates. As our consultant
Kessler Consulting, Inc. has been very cooperative and vVilling to work with us to enhance our
programs.
Below is a list of the duties that KCI has performed for the City of Durham:
•KCI successfully assisted the City of Durham in negotiating a recycling processing
contract. Under the terms of this contract Durham is still receiving rebates while other
municipalities in our vicinity aren't getting rebates or are actually paying for recycling. .processmg serv1ces.
•Completed a Request for Proposal (RFP) for building a new transfer station at no cost to
the City of Durham. The contract also contained provisions for the operation of the
transfer station as well as the shipping and disposal of the refuse. The contract resulted in
a 17% re due ti on in the per-ton disposal fee.
•Kessler Consulting, Inc. staff members Mitch Kessler, Robin Mitchell and Shane
Barrett have been willing to assist vVith presentations, site visits and analyzing data.
•Kessler Consulting, Inc. is flexible and vVilling to explore ideas as we have expanded
acceptable materials and restructured our collection methods.
KCI has become our first option for consulting services as related to solid waste issues. I
wholeheartedly recommend them.
Sincerely,
S:-"'--.... ✓ <'1fi ,....} j._;c..-,.k'Y /iij -1.. // I v --1.
DonaldM.
