Orange County WCS KCI Proposal
12
Health & Safety Plan Outline
Safety of everyone involved in the fieldwork is KCI’s number one priority and responsibility during a
WCS. KCI’s field staff are trained in the safety protocols and precautions for conducting this type of
work. KCI’s Field Manager leads daily training sessions and continuously monitors compliance with all
safety policies. In our 36 years of conducting characterization studies, KCI has never had a reportable
incident.
KCI considers our Health and Safety Plan to be proprietary information; however, provided below is an
outline of our plan. A plan tailored to your specific location, study personnel, and equipment used will
be developed during Task 2 of the project.

Section 1 Potential Sorting Hazards – Summary of most frequently encountered hazards and
procedures for handling.
Section 2 Safe Sorting Procedures – Procedures and safety guidelines for minimizing the risks
associated with characterization studies.
2.1 Universal Precautions – General precautions such as wearing personal protective
equipment; avoiding skin contact with or inhaling of waste; and location of first aid kit,
hand sanitizer, and fire extinguisher.
2.2 Engineering and Work Practice Controls – Practices to be followed in the field to avoid
injury.
2.3 Personal Protective Equipment – Required personal protective equipment.
2.4 Proper Housekeeping and Handling of Waste – Precautions to avoid specific risks and
procedures if such risks occur.
2.4.1 Inhalation, Ingestion, or Direct Skin Contact with Hazardous Substances
2.4.2 Puncture Wounds from Contaminated Items
2.4.3 Injuries Involving Moving Vehicles
2.4.4 Sprains and Strains
2.4.5 Heat Stress
2.4.6 Cold Weather
2.4.7 Noise
2.4.8 Slips, Trips and Falls
2.4.9 Fires
Section 3 Back Safety – Procedures to avoid back issues.
Section 4 Emergency Plan – Coordination with facility’s onsite emergency plan.
Section 5 Smoking, Drinking, Eating Policy – Where such activities are allowed and procedures
prior to being allowed.
Section 6 Daily Training – Summary of daily training activities.
Section 7 COVID-19 Protocol – Steps to be taken to minimize transmission of COVID-19.
Section 8 Contact List – Contact names and number for key County personnel, KCI personnel, and
any contractors, such as labor company or equipment rental company, associated with
the WCS.

2 SECTION Docusign Envelope ID: 1223AA0B-DDEC-4EBE-8FEA-427010558A5C
