The
processing of arrestees can be an emotional time for the individual, they may also be
under the influence of various substances (e.g., alcohol, narcotics, prescription
medications, etc.) and this can pose both safety and security issues, and occasionally
they may have weapons or drugs on them that were not found by the arresting officer.
The combination of these potential issues creates the greatest safety concern for the
facility. These potential challenges may also be expanded when individuals return to the
facility from court, medical appointments, or other agencies. Throughout the booking
process and prior to moving to a housing unit, booking officers must also supervise
individuals in the booking area. This includes individuals who may be in single or group
holding cells, open booking seating, the video courtroom, or being booked or released.
Individuals who require enhanced or direct supervision may also be periodically housed
in Booking. There is significant detainee movement in the booking area. Adequate
staffing levels are imperative to ensure the safety of all individuals in this area.
The following table summarizes the historic number of bookings.
Historic Bookings (2019 — 2023)
2019 2020 2021 2022 2023
Total Bookings 2,446 1,107 1,442 1,647 1,917
Daily Average 6.7 3.0 4.0 4.5 5.3
With an average number of bookings ranging from 3.0 in 2020 to a high of 6.7 in 2019,
there is not a significant workload associated with the processing of new arrestees.
