21
1 Slide #17
Manager Recommends:
• Board of County Commissioners:
Conduct a public hearing on Orange County SRTP;and
Approve the SRTP
2
3 Commissioner Hamilton said she read something about Medicaid funding for
4 transportation and would like to understand how the current transit systems connect people to
5 medical services.
6 Nishith Trivedi said transit services are provided to Medicaid recipients for clinical
7 appointments like dialysis and medical appointments. He said staff works with NCTracks,
8 Modivcare, Alliance, and others to make reservations. He said grant funding is used for this as
9 well. He said staff is improving messaging so people are aware they can use Medicaid/Medicare
10 to access transit to medical services and other managed care services.
11 Commissioner Hamilton asked if someone who needs a ride to an appointment should
12 call Mobility on Demand.
13 Nishith Trivedi said there is a demand response service funded through grants which can
14 be used to schedule reservations. He said that the transportation is provided by Orange County
15 Transportation Services.
16 Commissioner Portie-Ascott said she was thinking about what she heard at the JCPC
17 meeting and how some of the participants are not able to get to appointments. She asked if MOD
18 is available for them.
19 Nishith Trivedi said MOD is probably the best service for them because it is a same-day
20 service. He said some of the other services he mentioned are available but a reservation is
21 required 24 hours in advance.
22
23 A motion was made by Commissioner McKee, seconded by Commissioner Fowler, to
24 open the public hearing.
25
26 VOTE: UNANIMOUS
27
28 PUBLIC COMMENTS:
29 There was no one signed up to speak.
30
31 A motion was made by Commissioner Fowler, seconded by Commissioner Hamilton, to
32 close the public hearing.
33
34 VOTE: UNANIMOUS
35
36 Chair Bedford asked if the reverse circulator will come to fruition within the next five years.
37 Nishith Trivedi said it is part of the transit plan and can be implemented once this plan is
38 approved.
