The theme this year was Orange County Flora and Pollinators. The goal of
the contest was to inspire exploration, celebration and appreciation of Orange County's diverse
landscapes and outdoor experiences. Photographers help document the beauty and diversity of
important, and diverse pollinators, and the habitats they maintain.
A total of 93 photographs were submitted. A panel of independent judges selected first, second
and third place winners from the Youth and Adult divisions. In addition, judges identified an
additional Honorable Mention award per age group since there were so many high-quality
submissions. This year's judges were Lindsay Metivier, Andrew Neal, and Ethan Duvall.
Winners received a congratulatory letter, certificate, and for first through third place, a small
monetary award. The photographs will be displayed throughout the County. Last year's photos
were displayed at the Chapel Hill & Orange County Welcome Center, the Chapel Hill Library,
Central Recreation Center, Whitted Center, Hillsborough Visitor Center, Orange County Library,
Lanza's Cafe, and Southern Human Services Center. In addition, winning photographs are
displayed on the Orange County DEAPR website under the "breaking news" section
http://www.orangecountync.gov/deapr/, on the department's Facebook Page, and will be
"streaming" around the County on the visual monitors.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no financial impact associated with recognition of the contest
winners. Funding for the small monetary prize (gift card) is included as part of the annual budget.
ALIGNMENT WITH STRATEGIC PLAN: This item supports:
• GOAL 2: HEALTHY COMMUNITY
