New Business <br /> 11. Continuing discussion on selecting a vice chair. Rachel was voted in as chair during last <br /> meeting. Tracy volunteered and was voted in as vice chair. <br /> 12. Board Appointments- Sept. 27 is deadline for recommendations. The Aging Board is <br /> recommending that Dan be appointed. Janice will follow up with Dr. Wilson. <br /> 13. One year anniversary of R Place— Update and Presentation—Alison Smith. <br /> • Presentation Topics: Respite for All, Social Model of Care, Volunteer Model, The <br /> Evolution of R Place, Neighbor Helping Neighbor, Cognitive Resilience, Daily Program <br /> Template,Table Assignment Sample for congregate meals and activities, Social Time <br /> highlights, Light exercise highlights, Cognitive Activity (crafts, games, community service, <br /> community art) highlights, Movement Games, DJ Dance Party, Sing-a-long. <br /> • OCDOA's R Place is the first secular program of this kind in the country. 2nd one just <br /> launched. Winston Salem and New Bern want to start their own. The future goal is to <br /> have this program in churches across Orange County. Cost efficient: $20-30 for us versus <br /> $110+for the same programming. Plus, we have better friend to volunteer ratio. <br /> • R Place flyers will be emailed to Board members. <br /> • Jackie shared the 3-year PACT study at Duke to explore metrics for cognitive function. <br /> • National Family Caregiver Fund is assisting with R Place. We have also received a <br /> $10,000 private donation each year so far. Plus, initial $10,000 grant. <br /> o Janice will host orientation for new board members to go over funding and other <br /> administrative areas. <br /> o Donations are accepted to our department and are considered a charitable gift <br /> for tax purposes. Workgroup meetings are happening over the next couple months. Workgroup invitations <br /> should be in place, so lookout for meeting notices. <br /> 15. Virtual Age-Friendly Ecosystem Summit—October 8, 9, 15, 16 <br /> Sponsored by George Washington University's Center for Health, Aging and Humanities. <br /> Presentations representing NC: <br /> • NC Division of Aging on the development of the NC Multi-sector Plan on Aging <br /> • UNC Healthcare-Hillsborough Hospital will be presenting on being the first dementia <br /> friendly hospital in NC. Presentation on the 16tn <br /> • Alison Smith from the Orange County Department on Aging will be presenting on <br /> OCDOA dementia friendly business training <br /> 17. Recommendation for October 8 board meeting— Participate together in the virtual Age- <br /> Friendly Ecosystem Summit—"Shaping Tomorrow: Longevity, Age-Friendly and Multi- <br /> sector Planning" session <br /> 18. Virtual AARP Annual Livability Conference— Designing for People of All Ages - October 15 - <br /> 16, 10 am— 12 noon on Oct 16. AARP annual livability conference on Oct 15 - 16 as well. <br />
