372 Minutes of the Board of County Commissioners
<br />November 2, 1964
<br />The Orange County Board of Commissioners met in regular session on Monday, November 2, 1964,
<br />at 10:00 o'clock a.m., in the Commissioners Room at the Courthouse in Hillsboro, N. C.
<br />Members present: Chairman Donald M. Stanford, Commissioners Harvey D. Bennett, Gordon B.
<br />Cleveland, Carl M. Smith and Henry S. Waller.
<br />Mmbers absent: None.
<br />The minutes were read and approved.
<br />The Board requested the Clerk to write a letter of appreciation to Bryan Smith, former
<br />Assistant Farm Agent, for his services to the County.
<br />County Farm Agent, Ed Barnes, and Assistant Farm Agent, Cyrus Green, made a report of the
<br />farming activities in the County. Mr. Barnes submitted the following list of Orange County residents
<br />for appointment to the Agricultural Extension Advisory Committee:
<br />Mrs. B. F. Spencer, Route 2, Chapel Hill, N. C.
<br />George Widner Thompson, Route 3, Box 57-B, Mebane, N. C.
<br />Harry P. Woods, Route 2, Hillsboro, N. C.
<br />Joe Compton, Cedar Grove, N. C.
<br />Robert Kirk, Route 3, Hillsboro, N. C.
<br />The Board appointed these persons for a term of three (3) years.

<br />The following department officials submitted reports for the month of October, 1964:
<br />E. M. Lynch, Clerk of Court
<br />Cashe Boggs, Dog Warden
<br />Tom Bivins, Veterans Service Officer
<br />Betty June Hayes, Register of Deeds
<br />The County.Administrator advised the Board that James Freeland, local contractor, was no longer
<br />interested in the Walker Building. The Board offered the material in the Walker Building to a local
<br />group headed by Margaret Jones, provided the group arrange for demolition of the building before any
<br />other alternatives were offered to the County.
<br />The following road petitions were submitted, and the clerk was authorized to forward them to
<br />the State Highway Commission:
<br />Carolina Avenue & Second Street, in Eastwood, Hillsboro, N. C.
<br />The following bids were submitted for four (4) automobiles for the Sheriffla Department:
<br />$4,200.00, plus tax Yates Motor Company Plymouth Fury T
<br />Pursuit Special
<br />$5,436.00, including tax Harris-Conners Chevrolet Biscayne
<br />Chevrolet Company
<br />$4,185.00, including tax Ray Motor Company Ford Custom 500
<br />Upon motion of Commissioner Walker, seconded by Commissioner Cleveland, and unanimously
<br />idopted, Ray Motor Company was awarded the bid for four (4) Sheriff's cars.
<br />Dr. Hubert Patterson, Orange County Medical Examiner, reported the following for October, 1964:
<br />deaths from natural causes, 2 deaths from automobile accidents, 1 suidide, and 3 autopsies performed.-
<br />There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was adjourned.
