12 <br /> 1 • The NC Department of Commerce has now approved state incentives and will serve as a <br /> 2 liaison for State-assisted workforce development & pre-screening of applicants by NC <br /> 3 Works, and community college support. <br /> 4 <br /> 5 • The City of Mebane has recently approved its own performance grant and will waive <br /> 6 development start-up construction fees. <br /> 7 <br /> 8 • The Capital Area Workforce Development Board (CAWD), which Orange County is <br /> 9 affiliated with as a member, is expected to provide funding for employment recruiting and <br /> 10 screening services, on-the-job training, and incumbent worker training assistance. <br /> 11 <br /> 12 • Governor Roy Cooper and Morinaga & Co., Ltd.'s President Ota recently met in Raleigh <br /> 13 on July 10, 2024, when the State of North Carolina continued its active recruitment for the <br /> 14 expansion. <br /> 15 <br /> C <br /> i <br /> I, <br /> 16 <br /> 17 <br /> 18 Governor Roy Cooper and NC Department of Commerce Secretary Machelle Sanders <br /> 19 visited Tokyo, Japan in October 2023 to meet with parent company Morinaga & Co., Ltd.'s <br /> 20 President Ota, and encourage the firm to expand its Orange County factory. <br /> 21 <br /> 22 <br /> 23 Governor Roy Cooper and the North Carolina Department of Commerce featured <br /> 24 Morinaga's locally made"Hi-Chew" candy in a large State reception in Tokyo that included <br /> 25 representatives from all Japanese industries currently based in North Carolina, and the <br /> 26 State's industrial prospects. <br />
