Attachment 1 <br /> 1 DRAFT MINUTES <br /> 2 ORANGE COUNTY <br /> 3 BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> 4 BUSINESS MEETING <br /> 5 September 5, 2024 <br /> 6 7:00 p.m. <br /> 7 <br /> 8 The Orange County Board of Commissioners met for a Business Meeting on Thursday, <br /> 9 September 5, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. at the Whitted Human Services Center in Hillsborough, NC. <br /> 10 <br /> 11 COUNTY COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chair Jamezetta Bedford, Vice-Chair Sally Greene and <br /> 12 Commissioners Amy Fowler (arrived at 7:01 pm), Jean Hamilton, Earl McKee (arrived at 7:02 <br /> 13 pm), Phyllis Portie-Ascott, and Anna Richards <br /> 14 COUNTY COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: None. <br /> 15 COUNTY ATTORNEYS PRESENT: John Roberts <br /> 16 COUNTY STAFF PRESENT: County Manager Travis Myren, Interim Deputy County Manager <br /> 17 Caitlin Fenhagen, and Clerk to the Board Laura Jensen. (All other staff members will be identified <br /> 18 appropriately below) <br /> 19 <br /> 20 Chair Bedford called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. All commissioners were present, <br /> 21 except Commissioner Fowler and Commissioner McKee. <br /> 22 <br /> 23 Commissioner Fowler arrived at 7:01 pm. <br /> 24 <br /> 25 1. Additions or Changes to the Agenda <br /> 26 None. <br /> 27 <br /> 28 2. Public Comments (Limited to One Hour) <br /> 29 a. Matters not on the Printed Agenda <br /> 30 Chair Bedford reminded those in attendance of the procedures for making public <br /> 31 comments. <br /> 32 There was no one signed up to speak about this item. <br /> 33 <br /> 34 Commissioner McKee arrived at 7:02 pm. <br /> 35 <br /> 36 b. Matters on the Printed Agenda <br /> 37 (These matters will be considered when the Board addresses that item on the agenda below.) <br /> 38 <br /> 39 3. Announcements, Petitions and Comments by Board Members <br /> 40 Commissioner Richards said she did a couple of things this summer related to the Board, <br /> 41 including a celebration for the new County Manager, Travis Myren, when he took his oath of office. <br /> 42 She said she and Vice-Chair Greene have been working on the Naming Committee for the <br /> 43 Southern Branch library, and they are close to a decision. She said she also attended Juneteenth <br /> 44 and July 4t" celebrations. <br /> 45 Commissioner McKee said he is looking forward to an interesting and productive fall <br /> 46 session. <br /> 47 Vice-Chair Greene said she just got back from Raleigh where she attended day 1 of 2 <br /> 48 days of the North Carolina Affordable Housing Conference. She said she was pleased that Habitat <br /> 49 of Orange County received the Homeownership Award for their Gattis Court Project in Northside <br /> 50 made possible through the Northside Neighborhood Initiative. She said this made homeownership <br /> 51 possible for 4 families. <br />
