4 <br /> 1 communities, organizations, and agencies create emergency plans and procedures, ensure staff <br /> 2 are well-trained and drills are conducted, issue emergency warnings and alerts, and obtain <br /> 3 resources to safeguard lives and property while bolstering resilience to emergency situations; and <br /> 4 <br /> 5 WHEREAS, emergency management professionals play a crucial role in directing or assisting <br /> 6 emergency operations, ensuring that emergency operations centers are constantly ready 24/7, <br /> 7 and actively participating in operational activities throughout the entire emergency event cycle; <br /> 8 and <br /> 9 <br /> 10 WHEREAS, emergency management professionals collaborate and communicate with a wide <br /> 11 range of partners across federal, state, regional, and local government levels, the private sector, <br /> 12 non-governmental organizations, and the general public; and <br /> 13 <br /> 14 WHEREAS, emergency management professionals possess extensive knowledge of the hazards <br /> 15 and risks that threaten Orange County and our communities, the specific programs and strategies <br /> 16 available to address them, applicable federal, state, and local laws and compliance guidelines, <br /> 17 and the roles of critical partners essential to effective preparedness, response, and disaster <br /> 18 recovery; and <br /> 19 <br /> 20 WHEREAS, emergency management professionals assist allied professionals in the medical <br /> 21 community and in emergency response, business, nonprofit, and faith organizations to achieve <br /> 22 preparedness, response, and recovery capabilities; and <br /> 23 <br /> 24 WHEREAS, the Orange County Board of Commissioners is proud to honor the service and <br /> 25 commitment of its emergency management professionals and recognize their contributions to the <br /> 26 lives, health, and safety of all who live, visit, and do business in Orange County. <br /> 27 <br /> 28 NOW THEREFORE, we, the Orange County Board of County Commissioners, do hereby <br /> 29 proclaim September 30, 2024, as Emergency Management Professionals' Day in Orange County, <br /> 30 in honor and recognition of Orange County's Emergency Managers. <br /> 31 <br /> 32 Adopted this 171" day of September 2024. <br /> 33 <br /> 34 <br /> 35 Jamezetta Bedford, Chair <br /> 36 Orange County Board of Commissioners <br /> 37 <br /> 38 <br /> 39 A motion was made by Commissioner Hamilton, seconded by Commissioner Fowler, to <br /> 40 approve and authorize the Chair to sign the proclamation. <br /> 41 <br /> 42 VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> 43 <br /> 44 <br />
