Leadership Recognized for the Use of Biodiesel in IVC <br />PsLtl: '_GnA-n3 a e <br />Triangle) Council of Governments (T)COG) is recognizing six local <br />governments for their leadership in reducing harmful emissions and <br />increasing energy security through the use of biodiesel, acleaner- <br />burning renewable transportation fuel. T)COG hosts the Triangle Clean <br />Cities Coalition, which works to promote the use alternative fuel <br />vehicles ih the region. The North Carolina Solar Center is a member of <br />the Coalition, <br />The municipalities receiving recognition on March 24th are: <br />The City of Raleigh, which uses biodiesel in 300-400 trucks, including <br />garbage trucks, street sweepers, and recycling trucks. <br />Wake County, which swikched to biodiesel last year for its fleet of <br />diesel vehicles. Wale County also fuels emergency vehicles with B20. <br />The Town of Garner has been using B20 for the past 3 years in its <br />municipal fleet of on- road and off- road diesel equipment. <br />The Town of Carrboro is running all its diesel vehicles and equipment <br />with B20. <br />The Town of Cary runs its entire city fleet on B20, including transit <br />buses. <br />The Town of Chapel Hill fuels 165 of its own vehicles with B20 and <br />also provides biodiesel to the UNC Hospital Bus Service, the Orange <br />Water and Sewer Authority, Carolina Air Care Ambulance Fleet, and <br />others. <br />An additional five organizations, including the NC Department of <br />Transportation, Durham Public Schools and Raleigh Durham <br />International Airport will be recognized at Wake Technical Community <br />College on April 2 as part of AFV Day Odyssey, a naY.ionwide event to <br />increase awareness about alternative transportation fuels. <br />The recognition of these leaders corresponds with National Biodiesel <br />Day and the birth of Rudolf Diesel on March 18th, 146 years ago. <br />Diesel was khe inventor of the engine that bears his name, and ran his <br />engines on fuel derived from peanut oil. <br />
