1 ~C~C~:VDBK~ ~t`~M~ <br />Triangle Region Air duality Initiatives <br />Examples from Local Governments, Regional Organizations and the Private Sector <br />April 8, 2004 <br />On April 15, 2004, communities in eight Triangle counties will be designated by the U.S. <br />Environmental Protection Agency as "non-attainment" for ozone pollution, based on a <br />new, stricter standard for air quality. Ozone is formed when exhaust from vehicles, <br />machinery, industrial smokestacks and power plants reacts with other chemicals On hot, <br />sunny days. It can irritate people's eyes and throats and damage their lungs.
