Lease Alan Dorman, Asset Management <br /> Services Director, 919-245-2627 <br /> PURPOSE: To review a renewal agreement for the County to continue leasing space for the <br /> Orange County Public Defender's Office at 115 East King Street, Hillsborough, and approve and <br /> authorize the Manager to sign the lease renewal upon final review by the County Attorney. <br /> BACKGROUND: The County has leased 115 East King Street in Hillsborough for the Public <br /> Defender's Office since 2019. The renewal lease will begin on October 1, 2024, and extend for <br /> four (4) years, ending September 30, 2028. The County's first-year rent will be $52,800 and <br /> increase by 3% annually. Additionally, the County will also now pay for the first $1,500 of HVAC <br /> repairs and 25% of the cost of replacing HVAC equipment. <br /> FINANCIAL IMPACT: The County annual rent payment of $52,800 was previously approved in <br /> the FY 2024-25 Asset Management Services (AMS) operating budget. AMS's existing operating <br /> budget will absorb the additional cost of maintaining the HVAC system. <br /> ALIGNMENT WITH STRATEGIC PLAN: There are no Orange County Strategic Plan Goals <br /> applicable to this item. <br /> RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board approve and authorize the <br /> Manager to sign the lease renewal for the County to provide space for the Public Defender's Office <br /> at 115 East King Street, Hillsborough, upon final review by the County Attorney. <br />
