1 <br /> ORANGE COUNTY <br /> BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br /> Meeting Date: October 1, 2024 <br /> Action Agenda <br /> Item No. 4-a <br /> SUBJECT: Disability Employment Awareness Month Proclamation <br /> DEPARTMENT: Human Resources <br /> ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br /> Proclamation Brenda Bartholomew, Human Resources <br /> Director, (919) 245-2552 <br /> Dr. Timothy Miles, Disability Awareness <br /> Council, 919-245-4337 <br /> Darice Johnson, Disability Awareness <br /> Council, 919-245-4337 <br /> PURPOSE: To approve a proclamation declaring October 2024 as Disability Employment <br /> Awareness Month in Orange County. <br /> BACKGROUND: October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month to commemorate <br /> the many contributions people with disabilities make in America's workplaces and economy. <br /> Workplaces welcoming of the talents of all people, including people with disabilities, are a critical <br /> part of Orange County efforts to build an inclusive community and strong economy. <br /> FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no financial impact associated with approval of the proclamation <br /> and recognition of Disability Employment Awareness Month. <br /> ALIGNMENT WITH STRATEGIC PLAN: This item supports: <br /> • GOAL 2: HEALTHY COMMUNITY <br /> OBJECTIVE 5. Invest in, support, train and retain our community safety, health, and <br /> emergency services employees and direct care workforce. <br /> • GOAL 6: DIVERSE AND VIBRANT ECONOMY <br /> OBJECTIVE 6. Provide workforce and business development resources to enhance the <br /> skills of our workforce. <br /> RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board approve the proclamation <br /> designating October 2024 as Disability Employment Awareness Month and authorize the Chair to <br /> sign the proclamation. <br />
