MINUTES <br /> ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF SOCIAL SERVICES <br /> January 18,2022 <br /> THE ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF SOCIAL SERVICES MET ON TUESDAY: January 18, 2022 virtually <br /> BOARD OF SOCIAL SERVICES MEMBERS PRESENT: Pat Garavaglia, Jane Garrett, Oscar Fleming, and <br /> Jamezetta Bedford <br /> GUEST: None <br /> BOARD OF SOCIAL SERVICES MEMBERS ABSENT: None <br /> STAFF PRESENT: Nancy Coston, Director; Lindsey Shewmaker, Human Services Manager; Sharron Hinton, <br /> Human Services Manager; and Crystal Mitchell, Child Welfare Manager <br /> I. Call to Order and Introductions <br /> DSS Chair, Pat Garavaglia, called the meeting to order at 4:04 pm. <br /> II. Board Comments <br /> None. <br /> III. Public Comments <br /> None. <br /> IV. Agenda Changes <br /> Pat Garavaglia added Friends of DSS to the agenda. <br /> V. Action Items <br /> On a motion by Jamezetta Bedford, the Board approved the minutes of December 2021. Jane Garret <br /> seconded the motion. The motion was carried without dissent. <br /> VI. Items for Discussion and/or Decision <br /> 1. Smart Goals <br /> Lindsey Shewmaker presented to the Board on the three Smart Goals submitted for FY2022-23 as <br /> part of the budget process. The goals include: <br /> • DSS will process 90% of Medicaid applications within the State time standards <br /> • DSS will increase participation in employment services by 10% <br /> • DSS will reduce racial disparities in achieving permanence for children in DSS custody by <br /> 10% <br /> The County will be sharing departmental smart goals with the Board of County Commissioners and <br /> staff will update them throughout the year. <br /> 2. Racial Equity Work <br /> Sharron Hinton presented to the Board about the County's racial equity work. A team, including <br /> staff from other County departments, will be presenting to the Board of County Commissioners <br /> 1 <br />
