MINUTES <br /> ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF SOCIAL SERVICES <br /> June 21,2021 <br /> THE ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF SOCIAL SERVICES MET ON MONDAY: June 21, 2021 virtually. <br /> BOARD OF SOCIAL SERVICES MEMBERS PRESENT: Tamara Dempsey-Tanner, Pat Garavaglia, and Jane <br /> Garrett. <br /> GUEST: Oscar Fleming. <br /> BOARD OF SOCIAL SERVICES MEMBERS ABSENT: Earl McKee. <br /> STAFF PRESENT: Nancy Coston, Director; Lindsey Shewmaker, Human Services Manager; Sharron Hinton, <br /> Human Services Program Manager; and Crystal Mitchell, Human Services Program Manager. <br /> I. Call to Order and Introductions <br /> DSS Chair, Tamara Dempsey-Tanner, called the meeting to order at 4:03 pm. <br /> II. Board Comments <br /> Tamara Dempsey-Tanner noted that the Board continues to wait on the state to finish Board <br /> appointments for the current Board vacancy. <br /> III. Public Comments <br /> None. <br /> IV. Agenda Changes <br /> None. <br /> V. Action Items <br /> On a motion by Tamara Dempsey-Tanner, the Board approved the minutes of May 2021. Pat <br /> Garavaglia seconded the motion. The motion was carried without dissent. <br /> VI. Items for Discussion and/or Decision <br /> 1. North Carolina Integrated Care for Kids (NC InCK) <br /> Nancy Coston noted that there is an expanded role for Social Services under the North Carolina <br /> Integrated Care for Kids (NClnck) model and Crystal Mitchell will explain what that will look like. <br /> The model is funded by Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services for a seven year period and <br /> seeks to integrate services offered through various systems to support well-being needs of children <br /> and families. It is a two-prong model with one area of focus being service delivery and the other <br /> area reduction of expenditures for children insured by Medicaid and NC Health Choice. This model <br /> will be rolled out in five counties to include Orange, Durham, Alamance, Vance, and Granville. <br /> There is a two year planning period with implementation targeted to begin in 2022. UNC, Duke, and <br /> NC DHHS are the lead organizations. The model design has twelve Service Integration Consultants <br /> (SICs) who provide strategic coordination and represent expertise in a specific system. Two of <br /> these positions are identified for child welfare. One position will be embedded within the Division of <br /> Social Services and the other will be within DSS in the Child Welfare Division. The goal is to have <br /> l <br />
