MINUTES <br /> ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF SOCIAL SERVICES <br /> May 18,2020 <br /> THE ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF SOCIAL SERVICES MET ON MONDAY: May 18, 2020 virtually. <br /> BOARD OF SOCIAL SERVICES MEMBERS PRESENT: Tamara Dempsey-Tanner, Ann Wilkerson, Pat <br /> Garavaglia, Susie Enoch, and Jamezetta Bedford. <br /> GUEST: None. <br /> BOARD OF SOCIAL SERVICES MEMBERS ABSENT: None. <br /> STAFF PRESENT: Nancy Coston, Director; Sharron Hinton, Human Services Manager; Lindsey Shewmaker, <br /> Human Services Manager; Brittany Mann, Child Welfare Program Manager; and Crystal Mitchell, Child Welfare <br /> Manager. <br /> I. Call to Order and Introductions <br /> DSS Chair, Tamara Dempsey-Tanner, called the meeting to order at 4:05 pm. <br /> II. Board Comments <br /> None. <br /> III. Public Comments <br /> None. <br /> IV. Agenda Changes <br /> None. <br /> V. Action Items <br /> On a motion by Pat Garavaglia, the Board approved the minutes of April 2020. Susie Enoch seconded <br /> the motion. The motion was carried without dissent. <br /> VI. Items for Discussion and/or Decision <br /> 1. Current Operations <br /> Staff continue to provide DSS services in modified ways. Child welfare and adult services continue <br /> to do visits where possible and use personal protective equipment when meeting with families. <br /> DSS continues to provide economic supports while encouraging clients to use online and telephone <br /> resources. <br /> 2. Social work Operations <br /> Brittany Mann shared that intake reports have decreased from prior years due to COVID-19 and <br /> children being less visible. For the month of May (1 st-17th) the average number of reports for the <br /> last 4 years was 78.75. This year, we've received 40 reports for the month of May (1 st-17th). The <br /> prior two months (March and April) also saw a drop in reports. Many reports in May are typically <br /> from truancy concerns, which is less of an issue with school being out right now.
