MINUTES ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF SOCIAL SERVICES April 18, 2022 1 THE ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF SOCIAL SERVICES MET ON TUESDAY: April 18, 2022 virtually BOARD OF SOCIAL SERVICES MEMBERS PRESENT: Pat Garavaglia, Oscar Fleming, Jamezetta Bedford, Jane Garrett, and Ann Wilkerson GUEST: None BOARD OF SOCIAL SERVICES MEMBERS ABSENT: None. STAFF PRESENT: Nancy Coston, Director; Lindsey Shewmaker, Human Services Manager; and Crystal Mitchell, Human Services Manager. I. Call to Order and Introductions DSS Chair, Pat Garavaglia, called the meeting to order at 4:02 pm. II. Board Comments Pat Garavaglia noted that she and Lindsey Shewmaker attended the Board of County Commissioner’s Meeting on the 14th and talked about the agency’s accomplishments and goals for next year. She added that it went well. Ann Wilkerson stated that she enjoyed the staff appreciation event. Pat Garavaglia agreed. Nancy Coston thanked the Board members for attending and contributing to the staff gifts. III. Public Comments None. IV. Agenda Changes None. V. Action Items On a motion by Jamezetta Bedford, the Board approved the minutes of February 21, 2022. Ann Wilkerson seconded the motion. The motion was carried without dissent. VI. Items for Discussion and/or Decision 1. Building Renovations and Staff Moves The Southern Human Services Center needs a new HVAC system. It was originally supposed to be installed in May and requires relocating some staff for up to 28 weeks. The installation has now been delayed until the fall. When the installation occurs, the plan is that public assistance staff will stay onsite and have to relocate to other spaces within the building. Child welfare staff will relocate to Europa and Hillsborough Commons. 2. Foster Care Overview Crystal Mitchell presented an overview of foster care in Orange County. The presentation included data and demographics on children in custody in Orange County.
