MINUTES ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF SOCIAL SERVICES January 18, 2022 1 THE ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF SOCIAL SERVICES MET ON TUESDAY: January 18, 2022 virtually BOARD OF SOCIAL SERVICES MEMBERS PRESENT: Pat Garavaglia, Jane Garrett, Oscar Fleming, and Jamezetta Bedford GUEST: None BOARD OF SOCIAL SERVICES MEMBERS ABSENT: None STAFF PRESENT: Nancy Coston, Director; Lindsey Shewmaker, Human Services Manager; Sharron Hinton, Human Services Manager; and Crystal Mitchell, Child Welfare Manager I. Call to Order and Introductions DSS Chair, Pat Garavaglia, called the meeting to order at 4:04 pm. II. Board Comments None. III. Public Comments None. IV. Agenda Changes Pat Garavaglia added Friends of DSS to the agenda. V. Action Items On a motion by Jamezetta Bedford, the Board approved the minutes of December 2021. Jane Garret seconded the motion. The motion was carried without dissent. VI. Items for Discussion and/or Decision 1. Smart Goals Lindsey Shewmaker presented to the Board on the three Smart Goals submitted for FY2022-23 as part of the budget process. The goals include: • DSS will process 90% of Medicaid applications within the State time standards • DSS will increase participation in employment services by 10% • DSS will reduce racial disparities in achieving permanence for children in DSS custody by 10% The County will be sharing departmental smart goals with the Board of County Commissioners and staff will update them throughout the year. 2. Racial Equity Work Sharron Hinton presented to the Board about the County’s racial equity work. A team, including staff from other County departments, will be presenting to the Board of County Commissioners
