MINUTES <br />ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF SOCIAL SERVICES <br />September 20, 2021 <br /> <br />1 <br /> <br />THE ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF SOCIAL SERVICES MET ON MONDAY: September 20, 2021 virtually. <br /> <br />BOARD OF SOCIAL SERVICES MEMBERS PRESENT: Tamara Dempsey-Tanner, Pat Garavaglia, Jane <br />Garrett, and Oscar Fleming. <br /> <br />GUEST: None. <br /> <br />BOARD OF SOCIAL SERVICES MEMBERS ABSENT: Earl McKee. <br /> <br />STAFF PRESENT: Nancy Coston, Director; Lindsey Shewmaker, Human Services Manager; and Crystal <br />Mitchell, Child Welfare Manager. <br /> <br />I. Call to Order and Introductions <br /> <br />DSS Chair, Pat Garavaglia, called the meeting to order at 4:06 pm. <br /> <br />II. Board Comments <br /> <br />Pat Garavaglia commented that the Board would really miss Tamara as she leaves the Board. Tamara <br />Dempsey-Tanner thanked the Board and staff for all their work and noted how much she enjoyed <br />serving on the Board over the last seven and a half years. <br /> <br />Nancy Coston thanked Ms. Dempsey-Tanner for all her support over the years and invited her back at <br />a later point to publicly thank her with the entire staff. <br /> <br />III. Public Comments <br /> <br />None. <br /> <br />IV. Agenda Changes <br /> <br />None. <br /> <br />V. Action Items <br /> <br />On a motion by Pat Garavaglia, the Board approved the minutes of August 2021. Jane Garrett <br />seconded the motion. The motion was carried without dissent. <br /> <br />VI. Items for Discussion and/or Decision <br /> <br />1. Board Member <br /> <br />Lindsey Shewmaker informed the Board that after conversations with Pat Garvaglia she would <br />recommend that the Board continue to recruit potential members to replace Tamara Dempsey- <br />Tanner. The County can help with a more open recruitment and Board members should send <br />member suggestions to Ms. Shewmaker. <br /> <br />2. GARE Overview <br />
