MINUTES <br />ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF SOCIAL SERVICES <br />January 19, 2021 <br /> <br />1 <br /> <br />THE ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF SOCIAL SERVICES MET ON TUESDAY: January 19, 2021 virtually. <br /> <br />BOARD OF SOCIAL SERVICES MEMBERS PRESENT: Tamara Dempsey-Tanner, Pat Garavaglia, and Jane <br />Garrett. <br /> <br />GUEST: Oscar Flemming. <br /> <br />BOARD OF SOCIAL SERVICES MEMBERS ABSENT: Earl McGee. <br /> <br />STAFF PRESENT: Nancy Coston, Director; Lindsey Shewmaker, Human Services Manager; Sharron Hinton, <br />Human Services Program Manager; Crystal Mitchell, Human Services Program Manager; and Brittany Mann, <br />Child Welfare Manager. <br /> <br />I. Call to Order and Introductions <br /> <br />DSS Chair, Tamara Dempsey-Tanner, called the meeting to order at 4:35 pm. <br /> <br />II. Board Comments <br /> <br />Pat Garavaglia let staff know that crib sheets will be arriving mailed to Friends of DSS. <br /> <br />III. Public Comments <br /> <br />None. <br /> <br />IV. Agenda Changes <br /> <br />None. <br /> <br />V. Action Items <br /> <br />On a motion by Pat Garavaglia, the Board approved the minutes of December 2020 with one change. <br />Jane Garrett seconded the motion. The motion was carried without dissent. <br /> <br />VI. Items for Discussion and/or Decision <br /> <br />1. Board Member Update <br /> <br />Tamara Dempsey-Tanner informed the Board that Susie Enoch formally submitted her resignation <br />to the Board earlier this month. The Board will seek to submit a nomination to the Commission for <br />approval. <br /> <br />2. Orange County Community Child Protection Team Annual Report <br /> <br />Brittany Mann presented the annual report for the Community Child Protection Team. The team <br />reviews cases and provides recommendations. The report will also go to the Board of County <br />Commissioners. <br /> <br />Tamara Dempsey-Tanner asked what the state does with the local teams’ recommendations. Ms. <br />Mann responded that they review the surveys to look for themes to provide training.
