MINUTES <br />ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF SOCIAL SERVICES <br />July 20, 2020 <br /> <br />1 <br /> <br />THE ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF SOCIAL SERVICES MET ON MONDAY: July 20, 2020 virtually. <br /> <br />BOARD OF SOCIAL SERVICES MEMBERS PRESENT: Tamara Dempsey-Tanner, Pat Garavaglia, Susie <br />Enoch, Ann Wilkerson and Jamezetta Bedford. <br /> <br />GUEST: None. <br /> <br />BOARD OF SOCIAL SERVICES MEMBERS ABSENT: None. <br /> <br />STAFF PRESENT: Nancy Coston, Director; Sharron Hinton, Human Services Manager; Tina Clark, Child Care <br />Subsidy Supervisor; Lindsey Shewmaker, Human Services Manager. <br /> <br />I. Call to Order and Introductions <br /> <br />DSS Chair, Tamara Dempsey-Tanner, called the meeting to order at 4:05 pm. <br /> <br />II. Board Comments <br /> <br />None. <br /> <br />III. Public Comments <br /> <br />None. <br /> <br />IV. Agenda Changes <br /> <br />Tamara Dempsey-Tanner moved the Director’s evaluation to the August meeting. Pat Garavaglia <br />added Food Resources and Food Bank Updates to the agenda. <br /> <br />V. Action Items <br /> <br />On a motion by Pat Garavaglia, the Board approved the minutes of June 2020. Susie Enoch seconded <br />the motion. The motion was carried without dissent. <br /> <br />VI. Items for Discussion and/or Decision <br /> <br />1. Food Resources and Food Bank Updates <br /> <br />Sharron Hinton informed the Board that the agency has finished The Emergency Food Assistance <br />Program (TEFAP) training with the Food Bank of Central and Eastern NC and has developed a <br />process for distribution. Staff are working to schedule a meeting between the agency, Friends of <br />DSS, and Food Bank staff to delineate roles for DSS and Friends. <br /> <br />The agency has distributed about 2,500 emergency food boxes through drive-up distributions and <br />partnerships with PORCH, Table and other non-profits. During the distributions events, these boxes <br />are paired with produce boxes from the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program (CFAP). Boxes are <br />also provided to the refugee and immigrant populations through a partnership with the Health <br />Department and Human Rights and Relations. The agency also increased contracts with OCIM, IFC <br />and Table in the amount of $25,000 for additional food. <br />
