1 <br /> APPROVED 9/17/24 <br /> MINUTES <br /> ORANGE COUNTY <br /> BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> BUSINESS MEETING <br /> June 18, 2024 <br /> 7:00 p.m. <br /> The Orange County Board of Commissioners met for a Business Meeting on Tuesday, June 18, <br /> 2024, at 7:00 p.m. at the Southern Human Services Center in Chapel Hill, NC. <br /> COUNTY COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chair Jamezetta Bedford, Vice-Chair Sally Greene <br /> (arrived at 7:06 p.m.) and Commissioners Amy Fowler, Jean Hamilton, Earl McKee (arrived at <br /> 7:05 p.m.), Phyllis Portie-Ascott, and Anna Richards <br /> COUNTY COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: None. <br /> COUNTY ATTORNEYS PRESENT: John Roberts <br /> COUNTY STAFF PRESENT: County Manager Bonnie Hammersley, Deputy County Manager <br /> Travis Myren, and Clerk to the Board Laura Jensen. (All other staff members will be identified <br /> appropriately below) <br /> Chair Bedford called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. All commissioners were present <br /> except Commissioner McKee and Vice-Chair Greene. <br /> 1. Additions or Changes to the Agenda <br /> Chair Bedford dispensed with reading the public charge. <br /> Chair Bedford invited Todd McGee, Community Relations Director, to introduce members <br /> of the County Government Academy who completed their final class earlier in the evening. They <br /> were invited to take a photograph with the Board of Commissioners. <br /> 2. Public Comments (Limited to One Hour) <br /> a. Matters not on the Printed Agenda <br /> There was no one signed up to speak. <br /> b. Matters on the Printed Agenda <br /> (These matters will be considered when the Board addresses that item on the agenda below.) <br /> 3. Announcements, Petitions and Comments by Board Members <br /> Commissioner Portie-Ascott said she attended a Partnership to End Homelessness <br /> meeting. She said that in July they were going to vote on new members and member roles and <br /> duties. She said she attended the Phoenix Academy graduation ceremony the previous Friday. <br /> She said she attended the Cedar Grove 8th anniversary celebration. She said the transformation <br /> of the building and property was inspiring. She said she attended the Roots to Resilience <br /> Juneteenth event. <br /> Commissioner McKee arrived at 7:05 p.m. <br /> Vice-Chair Greene arrived at 7:06 p.m. <br /> Commissioner Fowler said she had been on vacation the previous week in Switzerland <br /> and said during her trip she learned about the unique features of their system of government. <br /> She wished Bonnie Hammersley the best in her upcoming retirement and welcomed Travis Myren <br />
