ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br />Meeting Date: November 15, 2005 <br />Action Agenda <br />Item No. ~j-~ <br />SUBJECT: Proposed Resolution To Name the New Southern Orange Senior Center For <br />DEPARTMENT: Board of County PUBLIC HEARING: (YIN) No <br />Commissioners <br />ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Memorandum from Chair Carey to Board of Commissioner Moses Carey <br />Commissioners -- October 10, 2005"Naming <br />of Southern Orange Senior Center" <br />Letter from Roy Brock <br />PURPOSE: To consider a resolution to name the New Southern Orange Senior Center for <br />Robert and Pearl Seymour. <br />BACKGROUND: Chair Carey recently received a letter from Mr. Roy Brock, President of the <br />Friends of the Chapel Hill Senior Center, stating that the Board of Directors of the Friends of the <br />Chapel Hill Senior Center had voted unanimously to request the Orange County Board of <br />Commissioners to consider naming the new Southern Orange Senior Center building as the <br />"Robert and Pearl Seymour Senior Center". The Friends made the request because they feel <br />that this Senior Center was Mr. Seymour's vision and he has been supportive of the Chapel Hill <br />Senior Center from the beginning. The Friends feel that naming the Senior Center building <br />after the Seymours' would be a permanent and lasting tribute to a couple who are loved and <br />respected in this community.. <br />Chair Carey sent a memo to the Board Commissioners, dated October 10~h, in reference to his <br />many discussions with the Friends' Board of Directors and the Department on Aging and his <br />decision to propose that the Commissioners consider naming the Southern Orange Senior <br />Center for Robert and Pearl Seymour. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: None <br />RECOMMENDATION (S): The Manager recommends that the Board consider the proposed <br />resolution to name the New Southern Orange Senior Center for Robert and Pearl Seymour. <br />
