Year-to-Date Budget Deputy and North Carolina <br /> Summary Governor's Highway Safety Program <br /> Triangle Region LEL, 919.245.2900 <br /> PURPOSE: To: <br /> 1) Adopt a Resolution recognizing federal funding for police traffic services to the Sheriff's <br /> Office; <br /> 2) Authorize the Chair to sign the Resolution; and <br /> 3) Approve Budget Amendment #1-B. <br /> BACKGROUND: The North Carolina Governor's Highway Safety Program (the "GHSP") partners <br /> with Law Enforcement Liaisons to promote highway safety awareness and to reduce the number <br /> of traffic crashes and fatalities in the State. Law Enforcement Liaisons ("LEL"), located in the <br /> eleven (11) regions in which the GHSP divides the State, serve as coordinators and organizers <br /> for highway safety activities in their respective regions and as liaisons to the GHSP Office in <br /> Raleigh. <br /> Some of the duties of an LEL include: <br /> • promoting traffic safety measures in the region, <br /> • supporting and informing law enforcement agencies within those regions of current and <br /> upcoming campaigns, <br /> • providing information and guidance in the grant process by assisting agencies with <br /> questions, and <br /> • directing them to the appropriate grant manager for their region. <br /> LELs communicate on a regular basis with the county coordinators in their region and assist them <br /> with the efforts to promote activities and campaigns on the county level. "Booze It & Lose It" and <br /> "Click It or Ticket" are well known GHSP campaigns. Additionally, LELs monitor campaign <br />
