1 <br /> ORANGE COUNTY <br /> BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br /> Meeting Date: September 5, 2024 <br /> Action Agenda <br /> Item No. 8-q <br /> SUBJECT: Vehicle Equipment Purchase for Solid Waste Management <br /> DEPARTMENT: Solid Waste <br /> ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br /> None Robert Williams, 919-918-4904 <br /> PURPOSE: To approve and authorize the purchase of two (2) 2025 Western Star Model 47XSB <br /> Swap Loaders, one (1) Front-End Loader, and one (1) Road Tractor for the purpose of collecting <br /> residential and commercial recyclable materials and municipal and commercial solid waste. <br /> BACKGROUND: Orange County Solid Waste continues to provide recycling collection to multi- <br /> family dwellings, commercial areas with multiple carts located in a corral system, other <br /> commercial businesses and schools. As approved in the 2024-25 Capital Investment Plan (CIP), <br /> two (2) Swap Loaders are due to be replaced in FY 2024-25 as the current vehicles have reached <br /> their useful life. In addition, the Solid Waste Department has a front-end loading vehicle that has <br /> been in operation for over eight (8) years, two (2) years past its useful life, also due to be replaced <br /> as approved in the 2024-25 CIP. Finally, also in accord with the 2024-25 CIP, the Department <br /> proposes to replace a Road Tractor that has been is service over eleven (11) years, three (3) <br /> years past its useful life. The purchase prices for all items are set through a cooperative <br /> purchasing agreement by the Sheriff's Association and Source Well, which is a service <br /> cooperative. <br /> FINANCIAL IMPACT: The financial impact will be $561,246 for the two (2) Swap Loader vehicles; <br /> $433,983 for the 2025 Peterbilt Model 520 Front-End loader; and $168,272 for the Road Tractor, <br /> for a total financial impact of$1,163,501. <br /> ALIGNMENT WITH STRATEGIC PLAN: This item supports: <br /> • GOAL 1. Environmental Protection and Climate Action <br /> OBJECTIVE 2. Invest in our infrastructure to reduce the environmental impact of the <br /> County fleet/facilities and improve safety. <br /> RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board approve the purchase of <br /> two (2) 2025 Western Star Model 47XSB Swap Loaders, one (1) Front-End Loader, and one (1) <br /> Road Tractor for the purpose of collecting residential and commercial recyclable materials and <br /> municipal and commercial solid waste. <br />
