1 <br /> ORANGE COUNTY <br /> BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br /> Meeting Date: September 5, 2024 <br /> Action Agenda <br /> Item No. 8-n <br /> SUBJECT: Procurement of Operating System and Database Licensing for Replacement <br /> CAD Servers <br /> DEPARTMENT: Emergency Services <br /> ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br /> SHI Microsoft Licensing Quote Kirby Saunders, Emergency Services <br /> Director, 919-245-6123 <br /> Christopher Ward, Division Chief— <br /> Public Safety Communications, 919- <br /> 245-6139 <br /> PURPOSE: To approve the purchase of the operating system and database licensing required <br /> for replacement Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system servers. <br /> BACKGROUND: Orange County Emergency Services is working to replace the computer aided <br /> dispatch system beginning this fiscal year. As part of this project, the new computer server <br /> hardware is required to meet the specifications of the new system. The new servers require <br /> operating system and database server software licensing in order to function. <br /> Emergency Services staff with support from Information Technologies` staff selected SHI to <br /> provide the necessary Microsoft Windows Server Datacenter and Microsoft SQL Server licensing <br /> using North Carolina State Term Contract 208C. <br /> FINANCIAL IMPACT: The total cost of the necessary licensing is $191,209.09. The Board of <br /> Commissioners approved $2,800,000 in the FY 2024-25 Capital Investment Plan (CIP) for public <br /> safety software enhancements to include this project. The combination of CIP and approved <br /> Emergency Telephone System Funds covers the total cost of all portions of the CAD replacement <br /> project outlined for this item and the two other CAD-related items on this September 5, 2024 <br /> Business meeting agenda. <br /> ALIGNMENT WITH STRATEGIC PLAN: This item supports: <br /> • GOAL 2: Healthy Community <br /> OBJECTIVE 5. Invest in, support, train, and retain our community safety, health, and <br /> emergency services employees and direct care workforce. <br /> OBJECTIVE 6. Provide sustainable, equitable, and high-quality community safety and <br /> emergency services to meet the community's evolving needs. <br />
