Project Description (at least 500 words) <br /> Project 1: 3 ADA passenger vans <br /> Orange County will procure 3 ADA passenger vans to improve transit access and services identified in the <br /> DCHC MPO Coordinated Public Transit-Human Services Transportation Plan. These vehicles are <br /> necessary to also implement the same priorities identified in the County's Short Range Transit Plan.OCTS <br /> expanded its public transit service area to 10 miles into surrounding counties and needs the vehicles to <br /> ensure on-time service to these new areas. <br /> Project Budget: <br /> • Total project cost$250,000 <br /> • $200,000(80%)Federal+$50,000(20%)Local match <br /> • County will continue funding service improvements after project completion <br /> Project 2:Mobility Management Program(MMP)—Go Orange <br /> OCTS seeks to implement a fare free program to meet the public transit needs for its seniors,disabled and <br /> other social and health needs. This specific Mobility Management Program—Go Orange—mirrors those <br /> of other transit providers in the area,like Chapel Hill Transit's EZ Rider and Go Triangles Go Pass. <br /> Project Budget: <br /> • Total project cost$100,000 <br /> • $80,000(80%)Federal+$20,000(20%)Local match <br /> • County will continue funding service improvements after project completion <br /> The 2 projects help the County and DCHC MPO accomplish several strategies identified in the plan: <br /> • More regional route options covering larger service areas with more frequency <br /> • Provide more on-demand service rather than demand response for flexibility in travel <br /> • Provide more transportation for seniors in Durham and Orange County <br /> • Determine applicable fund sources for cross-county transportation service <br /> • Reduce travel and waiting times through more efficient planning <br /> • Offer deviated or weekend routes to places that are important for social and health purposes <br /> OCTS is always recruiting new drivers and has the staff support to successfully implement both projects. <br /> The department will work with Department on Aging,Department of Social Services and others to meet <br /> the growing needs of the County residents and DCHC MPO support for such projects as this will help <br /> OCTS accomplish this goal. <br />
