Studies show their interactions with family, friends, and neighbors <br /> across generations enrich the lives of everyone involved. <br /> Everyone should celebrate aging and the journey! <br /> Ann Bradford said she is the Vice-Chair of the Advisory Board on Aging and thanked the <br /> commissioners for her appointment and for all of the decisions they make to the benefit of older <br /> Orange County adults. She said the theme is Powered by Connection and highlighted its <br /> importance. <br /> Janice Tyler said there will be a Death Expo at the Seymour Center on May 8th from noon- <br /> 3:00 pm and vendors will be present to provide information on end-of-life resources and supports. <br /> She said there will be a Health and Wellness Fair on May 15th at the Passmore Center from 9:00 <br /> am — 1:00 pm. She said they also have two shredding events coming up as well on May 291h and <br /> the Passmore Center and May 30th and the Seymour Center. She encouraged the Board to attend <br /> the first of the Summer Music Series this Thursday. Lastly, she said this is the one-year <br /> anniversary of the Aging Well Together Radio Show and all of the radio shows have been turned <br /> into podcasts and are available on the county's website. <br /> Commissioner Hamilton read the following proclamation: <br /> ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> PROCLAMATION <br /> OLDER AMERICANS MONTH — MAY 2024 <br /> Theme — "Powered by Connection" <br /> Whereas, May is Older Americans Month, a time for us to recognize and honor the 34,000+ <br /> Orange County older adults and their immense influence on every facet of our daily lives; and <br /> Whereas, through their wealth of life experience and wisdom, older adults guide our younger <br /> generations and carry forward abundant cultural and historical knowledge; and <br /> Whereas, our older adults improve our communities through intergenerational relationships, <br /> community service, civic engagement, and many other activities; and <br /> Whereas, Orange County benefits when people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds have the <br /> opportunity to participate and live independently; and <br /> Whereas, Orange County must ensure that our older adults have the resources and support <br /> needed to stay involved in their communities — reflecting our commitment to inclusivity and <br /> connectedness; <br /> Now, Therefore, we, the Orange County Board of Commissioners, do hereby proclaim May 2024 <br /> as Older Americans Month, with this year's theme, "Powered by Connection", emphasizing the <br /> profound impact of meaningful interactions and social connection on the well-being and health of <br /> older adults in our community; and we call upon all residents to join us in recognizing the <br /> contributions of older adults and promoting programs and activities that foster connection, <br /> inclusion, and support of older adults. <br /> The 7th day of May, 2024. <br />
