iii. Another budget request is for $24K for assistance with our lunch program. We are not
asking for additional help in the lunch program but we need this adjustment to get our
budget in line.
b. Seymour Center Outdoor Fitness Area has been removed from the CIP
i. Janice asked again, if we have ARP & MAP money, could we meet them halfway, with
the other half coming from any capital improvement money that was not spent. The
cost for the project is $200k. This was a MAP goal, and we are disappointed. The schools
need millions of dollars for renovations.
ii. We will be looking to reallocate the $75k of AARP funds another way. We cannot do just
part of the project because the state would not want to fund for example, just the
concrete pad.
2022-27 Master Aging Plan
13. Age-Friendly Ecosystem Summit Planning Committee—Created in the Metro DC area and includes
representatives from Maryland, Virginia and now NC. This summit is offered annually to highlight age-
friendly work in the region.
a. The Summit is a collaboration of Washington DC and surrounding groups, institutions, and
universities. The summit is online and will be 4 days in October 7, 8, 14 & 15. It is a regional
effort. The group in Washington DC heard about the work that OCDoA's is doing and wanted to
connect with someone in NC. Janice will meet with them every Monday at gam. Conference
speakers' online presentations will be recorded so that other community members can listen
later if they miss the conference.
b. Great group to be connected with. We are happy that it is online, and we can come together to
watch presentations.
Committee Progress Reports if needed:
15. Senior Tar Heel Legislature— Dick White/Vibeke Talley
a. The STHL meeting was good. Members reactivated and chose their type of membership and
two committees to serve on. They passed a resolution to ask the Legislature for$30k grant to
support the state meetings. Currently the budget is very limited. Hoping to have money to
support the meetings.
16. Nursing Home and Adult Care Home Joint Community Advisory Committee—Jackie Podger
a. Things are going very well. Finished 2nd quarter visits and submitted reports. May 7 is the next
meeting. The Committee has three applicants in the pipeline, and they are working to figure out
what date they can join the committee. Everything has worked out with merging the two
committees.
b. Staffing and Covid is an issue in nursing homes and adult care homes. A lot depends on the
administrator. Jackie reported that they are seeing more stability, even with the poorest
performing facilities; facility staffing and retention has improved. Some administrators have
asked the committee to help the facility and the reports will eventually catch up and reflect the
improvements.
17.
